How to Sign up for the Quiltropolis

Longarm Quilting Email List

1. Go to www.Quiltropolis.com
2. Look for "Mailing Lists" in the middle of the red menu bar and click on it.
3. Page down and click on the "Quilting" discussion list category.
4. Put a check mark next to "Longarm Quilting".
5. Page down and enter the email address you would like to use to receive the emails.
6. Click on the "Join" button.
7. You will receive a confirmation sent to the email address you specified above.  When you reply to that email, you will be signed up.

You will now start receiving about 100 emails a day from the various participants who post to the list with questions and/or answers.

After you are signed up...

If you want to receive all of the postings for the day in a single email, you will need to repeat steps 1-5.  Then instead of clicking on the "Join" button, you would click on the "Digest" button.

Your first 20 or so postings will be reviewed by the list owners to be sure they are appropriate and are following the rules.  So if your posting doesn't appear right away, it probably just hasn't been reviewed yet.  If after two days it doesn't show up, you should contact the list owner to find out why.  You can find the contact info for the list owner at the bottom of your "Welcome" email.

To send a message to the list, simply send an email to longarm@lyris.quiltropolis.com or reply to one of the existing emails that you received from the list.

Also be sure to follow the list of rules that are sent to you in the "Welcome" email.  The two rules I tend to forget are as follows:

• Only include 6 lines of the message you are replying to.  This includes the header lines.  So when you click on reply, the first four lines will contain the Subject, Date, From, and To information for the previous message.  If you need more than the next two lines of the actual message to make it clear what you are responding to, then you might need to get rid of some (or all) of the lines from the header section.  Sometimes I will click on reply, and forget to delete the extra lines (which will prevent it from posting).
• You are only allowed to include your Name (NOT your business name), City, State, email address, machine make and model (like Gammill Classic Plus), and your photo/web site address.  Sometimes I will forget and put our phone# in the message (which will prevent it from posting).

If you violate any of the rules, your message won't appear on the list.  So be sure to review ALL of the rules that are sent to you in the "Welcome" letter.  If your email doesn't appear on the list, you can contact the list owner that appears at the bottom of your "Welcome" message to find out why.
