Carolyn, Accu-Guide is about 3 by 5 with round indentations on each side as well as on the top and the bottom.  You will guide your hopping foot to go around appliqué or echoing printed patterns.  Without this, it will be very difficult to accurately trace patterns. It can be used for SID but this is not the main purpose of this guide. I bought this and the video about two month ago through Donita's website.  I watched the tape and started to use right away without any problem.  I did not even practice.  It is very easy to use.  I highly recommend it.  Another satisfied customer.

Debbie asked for info on a tool to help with SID around applique.

Last fall I took a class with Donita Reeve and during the course of the

class with worked with LOTS of different rulers. One of the rulers we tried was her Accu-guide. This is a great tool when working with applique. It does require practice but it certainly makes a big difference in accuracy when doing close work around applique. I have no affiliation.....just a satisfied customer.

Check with our suppliers for this tool or go to Dontia's web site at:

I just bought the Accu-Guide from Donita Reeve, I like it a lot. Does take some practice though.  Couldn't work without it. http://www.lovetoquilt.com/ not affiliated just a happy customer.

I have the Accu-Guide, the little ruler with the U-shape cutout AND the ruler with the just a hole for the hopping foot (it is cut so you can spread the ruler apart to slip the foot into the hole). I use all of three of them depending on what mood I'm in and what I'm doing.

For SID around applique I use mostly the Accu-guide. However, if I'm having one of "those" days I will switch to the ruler with the hole (sold by Rob's Rulers). That ruler allows you to guide the foot by holding onto the ruler with BOTH hands! I only use the one with the U-shape for short SID on patchwork. If I had to limit myself to just one of these rulers I think I would pick the Accu-guide since it is the one I use the most!
